Food Photography for Puckett’s

Monday, August 24th, 2009 Posted in Food Photography | No Comments »

The good folks at Spring Sprang in Franklin, TN did a bang up job on designing a wonderful site for Puckett’s Grocery. I was fortunate enough to be hired to do some food photography to help in the effort.

Now, Spring Sprang has just released a little behind the scenes video of the making of the site. You’ll find I have a small appearance.

Enjoy, if you please.

Cleaning of the Temple

Friday, May 15th, 2009 Posted in Architectural Photography | No Comments »

Well, this isn’t something you see every day.

I was driving back from a food photography client appointment and saw this … so I had to grab my 300mm (and trusted 16-35mm) and capture a few frames. The sky was really doing some fun things so I grabbed a polarizing filter as well.

This is a Mormon / Later Day Saint temple here in Franklin, TN. It’s an interesting structure from the outside.

I wonder what tomorrow will bring?

Food. Photography. Red Pony.

I’ve recently shot a number of dishes for Red Pony Restaurant in downtown Franklin, TN. Here are a few of the shots. There are others but I have yet to fully process them.

My only disappointment was that I didn’t get to taste what you see. It sure was tempting though. I can, however, vouch for their creme bruleé … and I’d be thrilled to vouch for it again, and again, and again. :)

If you’d like to see more see my food photography section of my portfolio.

Day Nineteen – Photo a Day

I’m allowing myself a little grace from this assignment today. While I didn’t actually shoot this today, I did process it today. This is from my Friday shoot with Aux Choux. I love the imperfections of this photo as I was shooting hand-held through a glass in the display case.

Another New Toy … Walnut Pinhole Camera

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 Posted in Pinhole Camera | No Comments »

Today I felt a little like Nicéphore Niépce as I shot photos from the top of a building on Main Street in downtown Franklin, Tennessee. My camera? A beautifully crafted 65mm f/130 pinhole camera made of walnut by Dennis Wilder.

This is such a contrast to my “normal” shooting with digital SLRs … and I LOVE the serendipity that this old technique allows. Digital is fast, immediate, highly controlled … where this is slow, clunky and far less control … all good therapy for me.

Polaroid proof.

My first Polaroid pulled from my new pinhole camera. Niépce would be proud.

One of my favorite Polaroid shots from my afternoon on the roof in 30 degree weather. The exposure time on this was about 6 seconds … as I counted in my head … one Mississippi, two Mississippi. Oh, and the shutter? … my finger.

What next? Who knows, but one thing’s for sure, I’m having fun.
