Planning Ahead

We all know that planning ahead is a great way to make the most of any task. Last Fall (mid-October) I began planning for today … when artist David Arms would show his art in a Fall-like setting.

Because I don’t show client work until it’s published I’ve not shown this image until now. This is an undisclosed location … a bit of a hike but once you arrive you’re in the middle of a lush environment … complete with an abandoned stone fireplace. The Fall colors are fantastic. I love it.

There was one downside to this particular shoot … poison ivy. Two out of three of us got a big dose of it. But, now with that behind us, I’m very happy with the results of our shoot, and planning.

Shooting Product

I continue to push myself in my photography. I’ve found that I prefer to look at things from different perspectives – philosophically and literally.

With photography it’s so often a combination of “thinking” and “looking” simultaneously. I know, this sounds a bit deep for “just taking product photos” but I prefer to be a little deep … otherwise my work would be boring and I would then lose interest.

So, all that being said (and thought), here are a could of product shots I did yesterday. I’m pleased with the forced perspective (thanks to me TS-E lens) and with the split tonal effects (b&w plus a little tint).

Day Three – Photo a Day

Well, I’m absolutely enjoying the self-imposed accountability to shoot a photo a day. I’m using it as a way to push and exercise my abilities. I’ve been holding on to this belt a while now in hopes of shooting it and now that hope is realized.

Day Two – Photo a Day

Well, I’m keeping good on my goal now in day 2. I think I’ve found that I like shooting really small stuff. These little guys came from a recent stay at a hotel. They are about 1.5 inches tall. Boy howdy does dust show up when shooting that tight.

What will tomorrow bring? Stay tuned.
