Kyle Dreier Since 1966

Who am I? My name is Kyle Dreier and I am a "creative."

For nearly my entire life and career I have been involved in out-of-the-box ventures. Turn the clock back to the early 70s and you would see me capitalizing on the sale and distribution of Pop Rocks prior to their arrival to the 48 contiguous states. Needless to say, the common thread through everything I do is my creative approach. I can attribute this non-traditional path to my parents who are off the chart creative.

Creativity is relative. Everyone has their own paradigm, AKA "box." I prefer to push the boundaries and break paradigms. When asked to "think outside the box" my response is typically "Your box or mine?" Going back to the mid '80s one could examine my career path and, on the surface, struggle to find a connecting thread. But, upon further inspection one would see how my ability to discern and question everything brought value to each of my endeavors. I rarely take things at face value. I continue to ask "why" when examining the ins and outs of any creative challenge before me.

Photography ... where I reside in my passion.

There's some quote about giving a man a fish and he'll be hungry tomorrow ... give him a fishing pole and he'll never go hungry. I'm not sure that has anything to do with me and my photography, but when I think of me and my camera I think it'd like setting me loose and I'll never go hungry. I get lost in my photography and love capturing images whether in studio our out on location. See Photography.

Vine Theory ... creative services rooted in sound business strategy.

As a service to small businesses, Vine Theory provides comprehensive creative services from a business plan perspective. The focus is on directive, intentional growth through the defining of a thoughtful plan. Each decision along the way answers to the return on investment question. If you are a small business owner or manager you're asking the questions that we can answer. See Vine Theory.

Illustrator ... doodle, draw, deliver.

Born from my experience as an art director I developed a linear, highly stylized illustration style. My illustration work appeared in a number of international, national and local clients during my hay day — from Fortune 500 to mom and pop companies. My most recent assignment was to illustrate a book with poems about kindness. These days, while very selective, I do accept the occasional assignment — with reasonable budget and schedule. Wanna peek? See Illustration.

Fine art ... breaking out of my own box.

In my spare time (yeah, right!) I continue to pursue my exploration of creating "fine art" in various forms. Yes, fine art is subjective. My art comes as an extension of who I am at many levels. Hurried. Frustrated. Impatient. Overwhelmed. Thoughtful. Flippant. Worried. I continue to seek satisfaction through mixed media where my formal training fights with my restless pursuit for creative freedom and expression. Wanna watch the fight? See my Fine Art.

Mr. Critical. That's me.

Blogs are strange things. I have a blog. It's strange. I'm strange. Why people enjoy knowing things about me and why I enjoy writing things from my head is strange. You'll see my raw thoughts here, as I am Mr. Critical. I hope you find my musings strangely amusing.

What else?

I am a husband. I am a dad. I am kind of a semi-normal guy living in a rather normal town. I enjoy my creative work greatly and hope to raise our children so they, too, can enjoy their work. I hope they grow up to think outside the box ... their's.
